Why Study This Programme?

The LLM International Business Law is available to students from both a legal and non-legal background. Our students have typically been law graduates, business graduates, legal professionals and people working in commercial fields both nationally and internationally. Within industry international business law is a fast-changing and increasingly complex area.

This postgraduate course provides students with analytical and reflective skills and expertise in international business law. It provides a learning experience which will enable students to develop their academic ability and enhance their performance in employment and further develop their career opportunities. It provides the successful candidate with a recognised postgraduate qualification in International Business Law.

A key feature of this course is that modules in International Commercial Arbitration and International Commercial Mediation are offered which may lead to additional qualifications.

Students registered on the LLM in International Business Law with Professional Placement, who successfully secure a placement will progress to year two. This will provide students with practical experience of working in a business law-related environment.

​Students who are registered for the LLM in International Business Law with Professional Placement must secure and successfully undertake the Professional Placement Module throughout their second year.​

Learning Environment

For online students, teaching and learning is predominantly through weekly synchronous and asynchronous online workshops. For campus-based students, there are weekly workshops which take place on Wednesdays. The learning ethos is to draw on the range and experience of our diverse student cohort

Our extensive e-law library facility gives access to many legal and academic sources from within and outside the jurisdiction.

The course is supported by the University’s web-based Blackboard facility with ICT an integral part of the programme. The University subscribes to extensive electronic legal databases and journals while all students are registered users of UCLan’s network with a dedicated network space accessible remotely.

Entry Requirements

  • A bachelor degree with Honours at lower second class or above or a professional qualification deemed to be degree equivalent.
  • Other qualifications or specific training and/or experience may also be considered if the applicant is able to demonstrate his/her suitability for the course and to provide evidence as appropriate.
  • Where English is not the applicant's first language than a score of 6.5 on IELTS (with no individual component below 6.0) or equivalent.
