Sussex Law School provides an international, stimulating and engaging learning environment. There has been a huge growth in the number and variety of human rights standards set out in international treaties, in national constitutions and so-called 'soft-law' documents.These standards are not always fully implemented and the mechanisms for trying to get them implemented are sometimes defective.

This programme offers various units suitable both for those with some previous knowledge of human rights law and for those seeking an introduction to specific human rights law issues.

Our LLMs from our new Master's in Law suite of programmes are designed for law and non-law graduates who want to explore the practical application of a particular, specialist area of the law. Specially designed for law and non-law graduates who want to gain a Master’s qualification in law, this course focuses specifically on developing an in-depth knowledge of International Human Rights Law and exploring how international law gets involved to protect human rights across the globe.

The Master Program on International Human Rights and Humanitarian Law (IHL Program) prepares graduates for taking up career opportunities in policy making, international, public and governmental service, public and private legal practice, work for non-governmental organizations, and academic teaching and research.

This LLM degree in Law, Power and Human Rights is designed to give both law and non-law graduates professional expertise in Human Rights Law. This LLM degree explores how the law deals with these rights and the protection it affords the state, individuals, institutions, and - in an optional module - animals.

The SOAS LLM in Law and Gender offers an interdisciplinary, intellectually and politically rewarding and collegiate space, designed for critical and impactful engagements with law and gender, with a particular focus on the Global South and both historical and contemporary legal and alegal pursuits of gender, sexual, racial, Indigenous, class, caste, disability, post-conflict, post-colonial and environmental justice. Our students and teaching staff are particularly versed in feminist, queer and critical race theoretical approaches to intersectionality and are deeply engaged in cutting-edge projects across the ‘SOAS regions’ and beyond.

It is also suited to those who want to develop a human rights practice in a domestic law context.
